Best Places to Get a Martini In New York

Looking for the best place to get a Martini in New York?

Martini, as most Martini lovers know, is a cocktail that combines dry Vermouth and vodka or gin. The garnishing is typically done with a lemon twist or an olive. A recent survey found that martinis are the #1 nightcap cocktail in the U.S.

New York City is known for its eclectic and dynamic character as well as the always on party mood.

If you are in the mood for a Martini, the city has endless options right from old world cocktail bars to charming debutants.

Here are the best places to get a Martini when you are in New York:

Best places in New York for Martini

Angel’s Share

The New York Magazine names Angel’s Share as the place where you can get New York’s ‘absolute best Martini.’ The 20-year-old drink parlor is located in the East Village within a Japanese restaurant. Only groups of four or less are seated in the no-standing room. Apart from the best Martini, the bar serves Japanese-style drinks. An added bonus, New York’s best Martinis at Angel’s Share are highly affordable.

21 Club

This restaurant was infamous as a speakeasy in the days of the Prohibition. Set up in 1929, the classic Midtown Manhattan bar makes one of the best Martinis in the city. Served on the rocks or straight up, the powerfully chilled Martinis can be sipped on the ‘power tables’ at the newly added bar.

Shun

If you are craving a Martini with a twist, heading to Shun at 610 Lexington Ave, is a great idea. The creator of this contemporary French restaurant is chef Alain Verzeroli of Michelin-star fame. Bar Shun at the restaurant offers the delightful Zen Garden Martini. Experience the umami-packed flavor of the Martini thanks to sake and Suntory Roku Gin infused with cilantro and nori.

Primo’s

Looking to get double dirty? Primo’s is an art deco lounge located in TriBeCa’s Frederick Hotel. The hidden gem in New York serves all Martinis as doubles, which makes it a perfect place to indulge in the cocktail with a friend. The salty and tangy Double Dirty Martini is created with olive brine, Vodka, piquillo pepper and white anchovy.

Slowly Shirley

Although the F.A.F. Martini here is expensive, the justification is the limited offering Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve gin. Aged in oak to make the alcohol gentler and saffron-tinted, the gin is probably the reason why Slowly Shirley serves the smoothest martinis in New York. Located at 121 W. 10th St., nr. Greenwich Avenue below ‘The Happiest Hour,” the Art Deco bar is filled with tables with Oscar statuette, oxblood banquettes while jazz floats through the speakers.

Dear Irving on Hudson

If you fancy a classic Gibson and an equally classy bar, head over to Dear Irving on Hudson nestled on Aliz Hotel’s fortieth and forty first floors. The Gibson is created using Carpano Bianco vermouth and Tanqueray 10 gin and garnished with purple pickled onion. The rich upholstery, glittering crystal curtains and full-length windows contribute to the place’s elegance.

The Stayton Room

The newly opened classy bar in Lexington Hotel pays homage to Captain William Stayton, who formed a group to fight prohibition. The cocktail program is headed at the Stayton Room by Frank Caiafa who is skilled at creating Martinis. Featuring plush sofas, intimate lighting and dark wood, the bar exudes a subdued vibe and intimate feel.

Antica Pesa

Located on Berry St, Brooklyn, the endearing Italian restaurant offers a dedicated Martini menu. This is the place where you can also get a Martini with a heady twist. Antica Pesa creates its signature Martinis with ginger liqueur instead of the traditional vermouth and uses lavender bitters in place of orange.

The Loyal

Whether you are celebrating your success or casually strolling in after work, The Loyal is a perfect place to grab a Martini. Each Martini here is served with one of the best sidecar in New York. Enjoy extra cocktail, skewers filled with pickles, olives, cheese, cocktail onion, and charcuterie along with your drink.

Sauvage

To sip a Martini while taking in relaxed European vibes, head to Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood where Sauvage is located. The Martini is created using a Spanish gin called Xoriguer de Mahon and Mauro Vergano Luli, a white Chinato. There is plenty more on offer thanks to a generous sidecar that has juniper sprig, caperberry, lemon twist, watermelon radish, and nasturtium.
